When you eat food it is not in a form that the body can use as nourishment. Therefore, it must be changed
into smaller molecules of nutrients before they can be absorbed into the blood and carried off to cells
throughout the body.
Digestion begins in the mouth with the salivary glands which contain an enzyme that begins to digest
the starch from the food into smaller molecules. The food then pass through a series of glands and organs,
until it reaches the small intestine where the digested molecules of food are absorbed through the
small intestine.
